Why We Must Study Theology

My dear friends,

It is with great affection toward you that I write this little treatise. I have compassion for you all in the mercies of Jesus Christ. The God of all mercy wants you to know Him personally and has made the way for you to know Him. Let me make one obvious statement to you. You must know that if God is our creator, then he has called you to repent and believe in the gospel. He has not left you to flounder around being under the sentence of death by the covenant of works (ten commandments) without providing a way of escape through the atonement of His Son, Jesus Christ. This atonement satisfied the law of God and made a complete propitiation (imputation) for our sins. Being made aware of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God wishes not that we should die eternally in hell; he calls us according as his manner is; Repent and believe in the gospel (Mark 1:15)

Theology properly understood is nothing other than the study of God and his revelation of Himself to us, so that we can know Him. Study involves time, involves deep thinking and meditation on Him, his being, character, attributes and any and all revelation of Himself to us. This by far is the most sublimest of studies a Christian can be involved in. As one grows in grace this becomes ones' all consuming passion. He in zeal, given to him by the Holy Spirit wants to tell others of this gospel of Jesus Christ and inform them of the joy he has found in knowing more and more about God.

Let us go back a moment and understand what the word repent means particularly in the new testament scriptures. In Ezekiel 18:27-32 we have a clear description of what repentance is. It involves a break, a turning away from iniquity or transgressions or sins. As the LORD says if we turn, we live. John the Baptist told the Pharisees and Sadducees who came to his baptism, "you generation of vipers who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come?" Bring forth, therefore fruits meet for repentance. "Meet for" signifies: "befitting", "congruous with" ,"corresponding with" repentance. Mt. 3:7-8.

What Consumes Your Mind?

  1. What consumes your mind more than anything else? Who is in your thoughts most during day and night? What book do you read more than any other? All books are fallible and written by man, nevertheless, if the Lord Jesus Christ, the creator of all things ever made whether they be in heaven or earth told you; I have written down my words which I spoke for you to follow; these words are words which give you eternal life, they show you how you should live during your time here, what you should beware of; how you should live your life. These words are the words from the mouth of God, they show you truth and error and show you what I expect from you while you live on this planet. My plan for your life if you follow it will give you more happiness, peace and joy than you could ever get on your own. You will receive ETERNAL LIFE and live FOREVER in my presence. He then says to you, "Repent and believe the gospel" Mark 1:15; Mark 2:17; Mark 6:12; Mark 8:34-38. So my dear friends read the Bible, let it consume your time, let Jesus Christ fill your mind and thoughts knowing he died on that cross for his people. He said come to me all you who are heavy and laden with sins and I will give you rest. God who cannot lie has this waiting for you.
